I work for an airport retailer that basically has lots of stores in some airports. For instance, our airport is quite large so we have one in almost every terminal...and sometimes two or more per terminal. We have an area manager (about the equivalent of district manager) and a regional manager, then under them are our store managers. I am a full-time employee, and also have a full-time coworker that has been there for about 2+ years. Clearly, he is homosexual...he acts prissy a lot and my store manager, the assistant manager and myself could tell ahead of time that he was. A new employee just started and she was telling me and the assistant manager the other day how he was telling her about all of the "cute guys" as they went by. He's incredibly difficult to get along with sometimes and thinks he can do whatever he wants - and he does, for the most part. He is "friends" with the said area manager, who is of course one of the big bosses. I've been told the area manager is married to a man, by countless managers and employees. I'm wondering if it's my coworker...because he brings drinks back there and drinks them behind the counter, gets on his cell phone on the clock, etc. The area manager never says anything to him. Me and the employee have had disagreements where I brought my concerns to the area manager after the said employee basically "went off on me" for telling him that I need some helping charging our equipment that we rent out to customers and with helping me stock the store. I didn't feel there was anything wrong with asking him about that - it's his job to do that, as much as it is mine. We should share the tasks and oftentimes have two people there at the same time. Anyway, the area manager addressed my concerns...but of course seemed to "favor" the other coworker, of course. He seems to secretly "report" things to his friend the area manager, who then seems to give employees a hard time for whatever, without really giving away that it was the coworker that told him. However, it's pretty clear. This coworker is basically a waste of space, but of course, I've heard how he has pushed around every "new" person that came there. Including the assistant store manager when he first started there. He doesn't do it as much with me anymore because I told him how it is one day a while back, and he shut up and at least does a little now. But the two of them seem to have that company sewn up. I can't prove that they're married or "related" in that sense...they may just be boyfriends. But every single employee that has been with the company for a long time has told me that. Since he's an "area manager"...the company has a lot of trust in him and basically wouldn't look into a complaint. In fact, it would probably backfire. The area manager and coworker both seem to annoy me a lot sometimes and seem to try to get me to quit. A new employee (girl) has just started, and now he's going at her telling her about how she does this and that wrong...but not helping train her properly because he always wants to be the "on top" man (while secretly doing as little as possible, of course). She was the one that he was telling about "all the cute guys" the other day. Suggestions about how this company could even deal with this issue? I'm looking for another job anyway...but I honestly don't see how any of this will stop until one of the said employees either leaves, gets fired or finds another job that they like better. I doubt the employee will ever get fired since he's buddy-buddy with a manager of pretty high authority. It's just sickening to me to see a place that corrupt, which otherwise so fun to work at.
